Licensing
Licence granting and extending
The licence is an authentic instrument proving the professional competence of a doctor to provide medical services within a particular area of expertise independently in the Republic of Slovenia.
Professional accountability of doctors and dentists (hereinafter: doctors) requires continuous and active education throughout their professional career. At all times in their professional service they are obliged to select from programmes of continuing postgraduate training according to their professional needs and to advances in the expertise.
The purpose of continuing postgraduate training is to preserve, update, develop and disseminate specialist medical knowledge and to train and learn professional skills, as well as relations to patients, to public and to their own profession.
All doctors who wish to provide medical services independently in The Republic of Slovenia must obtain the licence according to the specifically prescribed procedure. The procedure of granting, extending and withdrawal of the licence is regulated by the Regulation on medical licences.
A national of a Member State of the European Economic Area or Switzerland, providing medical services within the area of a Member State of the European Economic Area or Switzerland and wishing to provide medical services in the Republic of Slovenia occasionally, may do so without obtaining the licence in compliance with the act regulating periodical and irregular providing of medical services. The doctor has to be temporarily recorded in the Chamber's register.
